A group of Kappa Chapter Alumnae had been meeting informally for some time when they decided to petition the National Offices of Sigma Alpha Iota to be chartered as an official Alumnae Chapter. They were chartered as Iota Kappa on December 29, 1933, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Friends and music lovers of these charter members became dues paying Patronesses. They have become known as the Lincoln Alumnae/ Patroness Chapter. For years they were the only chapter in the nation to meet on a regular basis with both the Alumnae and Patronesses. Quite a number of patronesses have taken the training offered by the National Office in order to become elected officers. Together we continue to add alumnae and community music supporters to the total membership.
